I designed this custom jersey for the Cave Creek Owls with a clear direction in mind bringing back the bold, expressive style of 1990s hockey.
The goal was to create something that feels nostalgic and distinctive, while still holding up in a modern, production-ready context.
The design draws inspiration from an era where uniforms leaned heavily into personality, using color, pattern, and graphic elements as core features rather than subtle details.
From the start, the focus was on creating a jersey that feels unique and memorable, while still remaining functional and readable on the ice.
The desert landscape became the foundation of the concept. The lower portion of the jersey features a stylized cactus pattern set against a warm, sunset inspired palette, tying directly into the Cave Creek identity.
Above that, the deep green base provides contrast and balance, allowing the primary owl crest to remain strong and clearly visible.
Details throughout the jersey were designed to support the retro influence, bold shapes, layered color blocking, and strong outlines that translate cleanly into production.
Everything was built with manufacturing in mind, ensuring the design performs well at full scale and maintains its integrity across materials and use.
This project is a good example of taking a stylistic direction and executing it in a way that feels expressive, functional, and built for real world use.
