I created this promotional poster for a live music event at The Underdog in Nashville, Tennessee, featuring performances by Meltdown South, Carson Deans Band, and Mike Gowen Jr.
The goal of the piece was to capture the atmosphere of a small venue rock and blues show while keeping the layout bold, readable, and visually immediate. Rather than relying on heavy illustration or effects, the design uses strong typography, high contrast photography, and a rigid grid structure to create impact.
The poster is built around oversized condensed type, giving the venue and lineup a sense of weight and presence while helping the information remain easy to scan from a distance. Black and white performance photography was used to reinforce the raw, live feel of the event while keeping the focus on the musicians themselves. Each image was selected and arranged to create movement throughout the composition without overcrowding the layout.
A major focus of the design was hierarchy. The venue name, event date, and supporting acts all needed to remain readable both in full size and at smaller scales for social media promotion. Spacing, alignment, and contrast were carefully balanced so the poster could function across digital platforms as well as printed flyers and venue signage.
The overall direction pulls from classic punk, garage rock, and independent concert poster design, using simple visual tools to create something energetic and direct without becoming over designed.
