I designed this concept jersey for the New England Freezers as a tribute to the Boston Marathon, centered around the message “Boston Strong.”
The goal was to create a commemorative uniform that honors the resilience and identity of Boston while still functioning as a performance ready hockey jersey.
Rather than relying on literal references, the design focuses on capturing the spirit of the event, strength, endurance, and unity, through bold, recognizable visual elements.
The color palette draws directly from marathon iconography, using a high contrast blue and yellow system that immediately ties the jersey to the event.
A stylized Boston skyline is integrated into the lower portion of the jersey, grounding the design in place and reinforcing the connection to the city.
The primary crest features a simplified goaltender mask, serving as a strong, readable focal point that balances the more detailed elements throughout the uniform.
“Boston Strong” is incorporated into the back design as a central message, positioned beneath the number to ensure visibility without overwhelming the composition.
The skyline continues across both the front and back, creating continuity throughout the uniform system.
All elements were designed with production and gameplay in mind, ensuring clarity, durability, and consistency across materials and applications.
This project explores how a commemorative uniform can honor a moment and a city, while still performing at a high level on the ice.
